10 reasons to play Warframe in 2026

1. It's free-to-play and yet massive
Warframe is a free-to-play game with a monstrous amount of content. You can spend hundreds, or even thousands of hours there without ever feeling like you've seen it all too quickly.

2. The gameplay is ultra-dynamic
This is one of the game's greatest strengths. Between movement, speed, abilities, weapons, and the general pace, Warframe delivers a fluid feel that very few games manage to offer.

3. There is a huge amount of diversity
You can play very fast-paced setups, more laid-back builds, characters that are easy to pick up, or on the contrary, much more advanced stuff. There are truly many ways to have fun in the game.

4. Everything doesn't become obsolete after two hours
Even though people often nitpick about certain weapons or Warframes, the truth is that almost everything is viable. Above all, it's your way of building, understanding the game, and utilizing your setup that will make the difference.

5. The game's economy is unique

6. The game is cross-platform and hassle-free
You can play with anyone, regardless of their platform or where they are in the world, up to 4 players per mission outside of solo quests, without having to worry about a complicated server system. You launch the game, you join people, and it just works. Personally, after playing WoW, I find that frankly awesome.

7. The customization is incredible
You can transform your character in every direction, create unique looks, push the fashion frame to the max, and truly feel like you're playing something that represents you. And sometimes, you can even show off your skin on stream... before I steal it from you.

8. The game respects your immediate playtime
You log in, and within seconds you can already be in a mission blowing up enemies. No need to run around in circles for half an hour before actually starting to play.

9. There is a lot to do, but it's no longer a barrier like before
Many people hesitate to start because they feel like they're arriving too late. In reality, the game is continually improved to make the onboarding simpler and clearer than before. And above all, with good guidance, you can progress very quickly without getting overwhelmed.

10. The game is still alive and continues to evolve
Warframe continues to receive updates, new content, improvements, and real reasons to come back. Starting in 2026 isn't arriving too late, it's joining a game that is still alive, still supported, and always has something to offer.

Choosing the right platform

Players Nintendo Switch still need to know one important thing: the Platinum purchased on Switch remains tied to the Switch and is not part of the shared wallet with PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. In practice, this makes trading much more tedious, especially since the Switch market is smaller. It's not unplayable, but it's clearly more restrictive than on other platforms.

For players on PC, several choices are available:

  • install the game directly from the official launcher ;

  • install it via Epic Games ;

  • or do like many players and go through Steam.

If you go through Steam, you benefit from a simple installation, auto-login via your client, and it is also the platform historically linked to the TennoGen universe on the Steam Workshop and Steam store side.

In any case, the important thing is above all to choose the platform you are most comfortable with. Warframe now allows you to play on multiple platforms with the same account thanks to cross-save, so your initial choice is less of a roadblock than before, provided you carefully read the warnings before linking your accounts.

Account Creation

To create your Warframe account, simply head over to the official registration page. If you want to support my work along the way, you can use my referral link right here: https://www.warframe.com/fr/signup?referrerId=5b4792ca113ac9be75537787
By using this referral link, you will also benefit from a 7-day affinity booster. Concretely, an affinity booster allows you to level up your weapons and Warframes twice as fast, which is frankly very nice for a good start.

Once on the page, you just need to fill in the requested information:
- your email address
- the in-game handle you want to use
- your password

Tip
Take two minutes to properly choose your handle, because it's the one other players will see in-game, in chat, and during trades. Avoid handles packed with symbols or that are too complicated to type if possible. The day you win a giveaway on a stream, or simply when you want to trade with other players, everyone will have an easier time if your handle is simple, readable, and easy to find. It's a small detail, but it really helps to better integrate with other players. And above all, don't do anything reckless with your account. In 2026, there are tons of malicious people on the internet, so properly secure your email inbox and never share your login information with anyone. A Digital Extremes member will never ask you for your password or personal information. Even if today you tell yourself it's just a game, don't assume your account has no value. Once you've gotten a taste of Warframe, you very often come back at least to check out updates, especially the big ones.

Creating your character

When creating your character, the game will ask you to choose a starting Warframe. Don't put too much pressure on yourself over this choice: you will acquire the other two quite easily, so nothing is permanent in Warframe.

The three starting choices are:
Volt : she is the most versatile Warframe of the three, and clearly the one I consider the best. She is found in a massive amount of content and remains useful for a very long time.
Mag : she is a bit more technical to pick up, but she is also extremely powerful once you start to fully understand her.
Excalibur : I am begging you, play Excalibur. He is the iconic character of the game. If you have never played Warframe, in my opinion you must start with him. I know very well that many hesitate with Volt, because everyone hesitates with Volt, but I assure you that he will be way too easy to acquire later.

Once your choice is made, do the tutorial at your own pace. Don't try to understand everything all at once. Warframe gives out an enormous amount of information, but in the beginning, you don't need to master everything. Just focus on the basics: moving, shooting, using your abilities, following objectives, and starting to get familiar with movement. The game becomes much more enjoyable as soon as you start getting a handle on your mobility.
Then, let yourself be guided by the initial quests and the game's natural progression. No need to rush or scatter yourself everywhere right from the start. That's often how people end up dropping the game: they start a bunch of things at the same time and finish none of them. At the beginning, the most important thing is simply to progress step by step, unlock the star chart bit by bit, and find your footing.
If certain things seem blurry to you, that's normal. Warframe is a very rich game, and no one understands everything perfectly in a few hours.

Tip

Cross-Platform

Warframe now allows you to play on one single account across multiple platforms. Simply put, you can close the game on your PC, go continue a bit on your phone, and then pick it up later on Switch, PlayStation, or elsewhere, all while keeping the exact same progress.

To set this up, you need to link your accounts directly from the official Warframe website. However, really take the time to carefully read the messages displayed before confirming, because the game will ask you to choose a primary account. C’est ce compte qui conservera sa progression, et les autres comptes liés verront leur progression écrasée.

Linking your Warframe account to Twitch

Take the time to properly link your Warframe account to Twitch. And if you don't have a Twitch account yet, create one; it will come in handy regularly.

Very often, and sometimes even multiple times a month, Digital Extremes organizes Devstreams where several team members come to present upcoming characters, upcoming new features, and other important information about the game. During these livestreams, rewards are often given away simply for watching the stream.

If your Twitch account is properly linked to your Warframe account, you will just need to watch the stream for the required duration. A notification will then appear on Twitch, and you'll simply have to claim the reward to receive it in-game. It's very simple, and it would frankly be a shame to miss out.

Every year, during the summer, there is also TennoCon, and it's often one of the best times to grab some great goodies via this system. So do it now, that way you'll be all set for the future.

Two-Factor Authentication

Enable your two-factor authentication right away. Firstly to properly secure your account, but also because without it, you won't be able to trade with other players.

In Warframe, trading is truly part of the game. Whether it's to acquire Platinum, buy mods, sell Prime parts, arcanes, or plenty of other things, you'll inevitably end up needing it sooner or later. You might as well get this step out of the way right now and have peace of mind.

It's quick to do, it protects your account, and it saves you from finding out at the worst possible time that you're blocked from trading when you finally have something interesting to sell.

Promocodes

Regularly, Digital Extremes shares codes offering nice rewards. An absolute madman in the community takes the time to keep this thread updated on the official Warframe forums, making it probably the best place to keep bookmarked so you don't miss a thing:
